Hot and Humid In Ohio

It's been so hot and humid the past few days. During the night it stormed,hopefully it will cooler today.

~*A Walk Around My House*~

I made this hypertufa trough a couple years ago. My best friend Chris and I each made several of them. They were fun to make.


The yellow flowers, I think the common name is false sunflowers. They have went crazy this summer.

The flowers in my window box are getting bigger. The Japanese beetles have bombarded the sweet potatoe vine. I sprayed them with an organic spray.


The Hydrangea are blooming. Last year they didn't bloom. One of my horticulture friends said we had a late freeze and it froze the buds. This year it was milder.


This is a little fish pond.You can't tell there's water because the lily pads are too big. They need seperated and repotted. I'm not looking forward to thinning them,they're huge.

The Shasta Daisies are blooming. They are great to cut and put in bouquets. They last long in an arrangement.

This Is The Way We Do Our Hay at Butler Farms

Awww.. this is the way to make hay. We use all of our hay to feed heifers. So we don't bale dry hay. I remember those days all too well. Tom would rake it all fluffy then here comes the rain. LOL! We're on 2nd cutting today.
The guys cut it, rake it and then the chopper picks it up and the trucks run along side the chopper. We have over 250 acres and they can get it done in just a couple days. It then goes into a bunker where it is packed down with a tractor. After that it is covered with heavy plastic and it is held down with recycled tires that have been cut in half so the water doesn't collect in the tires.
Alot of dairy farmers make hay like this, actually it's called haylage. Cal owns the chopper and farmers hire him to do their haylage. Then in the fall he puts up corn silage for them.

Decorating a bike for the 4th of July has been a tradition that I started with my daughter Lindsay. We have done this since she's been little.
