Every year we take our Christmas tree outside and stake it up by the bird feeders. We don't take it down till spring. I was surprised that our Christmas tree didn't lose that many needles.
One of our friend's dad has a pond and sinks discarded Christmas trees in his pond. It creates habitat for fish.
Julie, I love to see that you don't automatically trash your tree once the holidays are over. My town isn't that large (about 125,000) but Parks and Rec has a program in place to collect discarded trees. The trees are either chopped up into mulch and used on city trees and gardens or the trees themselves are sunk into our large lake for fish habitat. To me, this is recycling at it's best.
