Another Sign of Spring

Last night we went Tiger Salamander hunting.
This time of year they are starting to mate.
We have a wetland area on our farm
where Tiger Salamanders lay their eggs.

This is Dillan and Riley holding a Tiger Salamander.
If you shine your flashlight you can see them in the water.

Here's a another one.
The salamanders move from other areas so,
alot of them have to cross the road.
My son, Tommy walked down the road and collected them.
He moved them to the other side of the road so they wouldn't get hit by cars.

It's been a good weekend so far, even though it has been rainy.
My husband, son and I traveled to Shelby Saturday.
They wanted to go to a "guy store", Sportsman's Den.
So, I dropped them off and I went to Ault's
Rug Hooking Store.
They were having a hook in there .
I bought some wool and got to talk to
Tammy and Julie.
There were flood warnings in Shelby
so there weren't many hookers.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  1. When I was a kid in southern California, we lived in a canyon with a creek running through. We used to catch salamanders and hunt for their eggs because the eggs were so neat looking. (We always let the salamanders go and didn't touch the eggs.) I love those memories! :)

    Happy Sunday!

  3. We call it Big Night here in MA. My fifth grade class studies vernal pools and we go out every spring on the first warm rainy night to witness the wood frog and salamander migration and mating! It's very cool! We are thinking maybe the end of March for us...we still have ice on our pools, but I'm glad to see it coming!

Do you do anything with the salamanders other than look at them?
Sounds like you had a fun day in Shelby. Hope you got lots of yummy wools.
