Bluebirds and Star Rug

Good Sunday afternoon!! It snowed here Friday night, probably about 5 inches of pretty snow. Today it is melting and tommorrow we will have mud. I'm sure we will get more snow.
Next Saturday is the Annual Pajama Party at Country Craft Cupboard in Berlin. They have 40% off storewide, just a few things aren't. I haven't decided if I'm going to go, it starts at 6:00 AM and ends at 9:00AM. Is anyone else going?
I bought the book, Home Sweet Home by Blackbird Designs. It is a great book and this is one of the patterns in the book. I love all their designs!! I listed it on Ebay. Have a good week!

Winter Has Arrived

A winter storm arrived here last night. It was so windy that it blew our dining room door open sometime in the night. It was 38 in our downstairs this morning,we had the door at the bottom of the steps closed so it was warm upstairs. We have annual Winterfest in our town,the weather will be perfect for the ice sculptures. I finished this rug by Country Stitches, I love it!! I will be listing it on Ebay tonight. Feels Like Spring

It feels like spring, maybe just for a couple days though. It's so nice to have the sun shining. The picture was taken yesterday at our farm, usually there would be lots of snow this time of year. I got my blog back, alot of things look different. I'm glad I didn't lose anything. I went to the mail box and received the Jan/feb. Rug Hooking magazine. It has the cutest pattern from Maria Barton -Star Rug Company in it. Also, new swatches from Rebecca Erb, OHHH!! I can't resist I will be ordering Monday morning!! Forgot I also ordered the new pattern book from Robin- Bird In the Hand Primitives, the patterns are REALLY nice. Can't wait to hook them! Yesterday I had a nice time with my daughter, Lindsay. We went for lunch, then shopping. Enjoy the weekend!

I'm looking forward to 2012! I don't make New Year's resolutions, I do dream of what 2012 has in store. Each day I try to do the best I can, to be a good wife and mother.

I have been receiving lots of seed catalogues and my favorite catalogue, Swan Island Dahlias. This picture is of one of the dahlias I grew last season. I know we are just getting started with winter so I'm going to make the best of it.

Birdhouse House

We made it through Christmas! It was fun and I got alot of nice gifts,best of all having my family here.
This is a picture of a birdhouse that I won in a silent auction at our Goodwill. It looks like a dollhouse, it is a birdhouse though. The holes for the birds are on the sides. It is well built and heavy- I don't know anything about it.There are no markings on it,it could of made in China for all I know. LOL!! I love it though. Above it is one of my favorite bears, I like bears too. Hope you have a nice day!

Merry Christmas!! Last night my 3 kids, Tom and I traveled to my husband's family in Marblehead, Ohio. My daughter, Lindsay drove and my husband sat up front. I sat in the back seat between my boys we stopped 3 times on the way up. Drinks, scratch off lottery tickets, stopping for Gift Cards LOL! We had fun! Today we went to my parents. My mom is a great cook, as always we stuffed ourselves. Hope you are having a very Merry Christmas!!

Christmas is in 4 days!! I have lots of wrapping to do and still have baking to do. I don't think we are going to have a white Christmas, that's ok with me. We have to travel to Marblehead,Ohio Christmas eve so, icy snowy roads are one less thing I have to worry about.
I had to hook another snowman. It was fun to hook and I had plenty of wool left to hook another one. Can you believe next weekend is Christmas? I'm finishing shopping, just need to get stocking stuffers. This week I'm baking cookies, I don't want to make too many because I eat them and gain weight!

Tree Farm Rug

It has been raining buckets here in Ohio. I hear snow is coming Friday, might put me in the Christmas spirit. We have our live tree up but, I have so much more decorating I want to do.

Remember the days when you had to go to five stores just to find one Christmas present on your list? That is if you're around my age. I did most of my Christmas shopping online today, wearing my comfy sweats and no makeup. Love shopping that way.

I think this is the cutest pattern. It is a Country Stitches pattern. Yesterday I dyed the wool for the snow, it turned out just the way I wanted it to.I still have several patterns that I want to make that have snow in them. So, the wool I dyed will be perfect. I listed it on Ebay.

Red Tailed Hawks

This is my son, Tommy (right) releasing 2 juvenile Red Tailed Hawks. It is amazing to me all the things he does. It is wonderful that he has a job he loves. These 2 were trapped because they were hanging out at an airport. Tommy relocates them so they don't get caught in a plane and create a crash. I think they are beautiful.
I'm hooking and hope to finish another rug today, we'll see. You never know what will come up today. Have a great day!

It's turning out to be a busy week for me. Starting out today my son's truck decided to break. While he was working, mom was hunting for the part. I had to order the new alternator and I will pick it up tommorrow morning. No one wants me to work away from home because mom is the Gofor person. If you live on a farm you know what I mean. What a beautiful day! I have been outside most of the day cleaning up my flower beds. It's 3:00 coffee time here at Butler Farms. Every day around 3, I have to have coffee or I start yawning. So I'm taking a little break.
This morning I finished up this santa rug before I started working outside. It's another Country Stitches pattern that I bought last year and never made it. I think it turned out good, I love Brenda Gervais patterns!! It is originally an oval needle punch, I made it rectangle and added the star. I used alot of the wool that I dyed last week. It's on Ebay.

1st Christmas Rug of 2011

It's getting to be that time of year!! I'm starting early to prepare for the holidays, guess I'm in the mood. This rug was really fun to hook, it is a design by Country Stitches. It really looks old, I used alot of dyed wool. I listed it on Ebay this afternoon. Friday and Saturday I spent dyeing wool. I got alot of great colors for some holiday rugs.
We have gotten a few hard frosts so our growing season is over. I sure feel bad for all of you that got SNOW!! I'm not ready for that. I'm still working on organizing stuff and will take a picture of my cupboard.

Turkey Hill Rug

I managed to get this rug finished, that's a major accompliment right now. I've been organizing all my kitchen cupboards, getting rid of alot of stuff I don't use. This isn't one of my favorite things to do because I end up with a big mess. I know it's worth it in the end because everything will be clean and organized. There is so many things I want to get done before it gets really cold. I think this is called "nesting" LOL!
The rug is a pattern from Lori Brechlin- Notforgotten Farms. It was in her fall book but, you can get the pattern drawn up at Spruce Ridge Studios.
My sister and I went to Columbus to go thrift store shopping. We met up with my daughter, Lindsay, who is living there going to college at OSU. We had a great time and found alot of nice stuff.

My Favorite Cupboard

It's already Thursday, this week flew by. Today I moved my favorite cupboard from one side of our dining room to another. When we first moved into our house, I moved this up from the basement. It was the original kitchen cupboard in our house. Tom's grandma moved it to the basement where she kept all her canning goods in it. We had to refinish it because it was pretty nasty looking. We had a heck of a time getting it out of the basement. It has had different purposes through the years. At one point we had it in our living room and stored the kids toys in it.

I emptied everything out of it and I want to put all my rug hooking stuff in it. Don't know if I'll fold the wool up or leave in baskets. We'll see, I want to fit as much stuff in it as possible.

Osage Oranges and Apples

It still hasn't frosted here so we're still getting vegetables out of our garden. I've been cutting flower for little bouquets for our house. If I hear about frost
I'll be cutting LOTS of flowers. I really miss them in the winter!!
Today I went to get apples at the local orchard with my best friend Chris. The apples are beautiful this year. I want to make applesauce and pies. On the way home we picked up hedge apples or osage oranges on the side of the road. I love to get them.
I'm working on a hooked turkey rug, hope to finish it by the end of the week.

It was another great day in Ohio. I am enjoying the nice weather. I finished this rug, it's the last Halloween rug for this year. It is another Country Stitches pattern. I listed it on Ebay.

I forgot I had this pumpkin birdhouse. The scarecrow I made.

I made the cat, it is one of my favorites. I also made the "Happy Halloween" sign.

Fall Flowers

BRRRR! It's been cold. We turned our furnace on last night. I thought I better get out and take pictures of my flowers before they get frosted. It's the time of year to get flower beds cleaned up, I'm going to wait til it frosts though.

I planted my dahlia tubers late this spring, so they are starting to bloom now. The rest of my flowers are about done.

I ordered these dahlias from Swan Island Dahlias. I can't believe how nice they are. The tubers were small, so I thought they might do better the 2nd year.

I love zinnias too.

This week our town is having their annual street fair. The weather is supposed to be sunny. My kids will be coming home and my father inlaw will be here. It will be a fun week. Happy Sunday!

Cupboard From Malabar

This is the cupboard I bought for our kitchen last Saturday at Malabar Farm. We live in a very old farmhouse, all the kitchen walls and cupboards are cherry.

Yesterday I went to Malabar Farms In the spirit of Friends show. I thought it was best one so far. I have been looking for a cupboard FOREVER to put in my kitchen. They are usually too small or too big- you get the idea. SOOO I found one there, it is absolutely perfect. I was with Becky,another hooker, she flagged down a golf cart. We got it to the car,whew!!
I saw Bobbie-the evening stitcher, Lauren-Pugs and Rugs, Alice-A Day In the Life,Rhonda-My Glory Stars, Lisa and Sylvia. It was great seeing everybody!!

Harvesting Corn

My flowers are still blooming.

I'm still watering and fertilizing them.

Today has been dreary and gloomy.

We are harvesting the corn on our farm.

The guys are finishing up today,it hasn't rained enough

to keep them out of the fields.

Lindsay is back at college, so we're empty nesters again.

Maddie harvested her ear of corn.
This is the chopper.
It looks like a transformer,
it is an awesome machine.

I did the picture backwards.
After the corn is chopped in the trucks they dump
and then they pack the pile of corn silage.
It preserves it.
We feed corn silage to our 500 heifers
I
I was riding in the silage truck with Tom.
We don't have a long way to go, just across the road.
They get alot done being so close.
There were 4 trucks running yesterday.

This is what it looks like inside the truck getting a load.

They were opening up a new field.

Fall Pumpkins

Greetings from Ohio, where it feels like an early fall is setting in.

I bought pumpkins today, which is just another sign that fall is closer.

However, the pumpkins were really nice.

They were grown from a pumpkin farmer up the road.

I finished hooking this rug. It is a Country Stitches pattern

It is 17.5" x 17.5"

I used purple in it, which is a little out of my comfort zone.

I finished this hooked rug today.

It is a new Country Stitches pattern, love her patterns!

What a difference a few days make, it was in the 90's Saturday.

Today it in the mid 60's, I was actually wearing a sweatshirt.

Fall is in the air, I'm not ready for it.

The cooler weather has gotten me in the mood to decorate for fall.

Yesterday I found this cute chair at a thrift store for $10.00!! It has a slip cover so I can wash it or use it for a pattern to sew a new one. I bought it for my daughter, Lindsay, if she doesn't like it I'll use it.

Pumpkin Crow Rug

We have been watching the news coverage of Hurricane Irene.

What a huge storm!

Wouldn't it be great if we could send

some water to Oklahoma and Texas.

We don't hear much on the news

about the severe drought they are having.

Hope it gets out of here.

We got off our last cutting of hay for the year.

The corn and soybeans have a few more weeks yet before

Tom will harvest them.

I have been busy in my gardens

This summer is flying by!

There is so much that I want to do.

I have a long list of things I want to get painted.

Alot of my perennials are done but,

the annuals are just getting going.

I planted late this year because of all the rain.

Didn't get to Sauder this year but,

I just bought fence,

I've got 4 up and I have 7 more fence pieces.

I've been seeing lots of butterflies.

I'm going to use these plants
in fairy gardens.

I love days like today!

It doesn't get any better.

I've worked outside in my yard

for the past couple days.

My daughter took this picture of our silos

Lindsay took this picture of our grain bins.

Tommorrow I'm going to Columbus to help

my son move into his new apartment.

He has been living in my daughter's apartment,

since she is home for the summer.

Tommy was feeling a little weird sleeping in a pink bedroom. LOL!!

Then we are going out to eat with my mom and dad

at Sky Way East. The food is really good.

Keeping Busy

What a hot summer we've had, I'm enjoying it though.

Thank goodness for air conditioning.

I go outside in the morning, feed my chickens and collect eggs.

Water flowers and pull weeds.

Then back in till it gets cooler.

The lillies in my gardens are blooming,they smell so good.

I have a few different varieties so they bloom awhile.

My hydrangeas are getting big clusters of flowers.

Golden Yarrow

Hot and humid!!!

It's not that bad compared to some

states that are having 100 degree heat.

My yarrow is blooming and I will be cutting it to dry.

I usually wait too long and the flowers start to turn brown.

The sweet peas are blooming well also.

Hydrangeas Blooming

We've had beautiful weather here in Ohio.

I have several different varieties of Hydrangeas bushes.

Our Hydrangeas started to bloom and it's the most flowers that

I've had on this variety.

Yesterday my mom, daughter and I moved my oldest son

out of his apartment. He lives in Columbus,Oh..

Actually he found an apartment that he can't move into till the first

week in August. So, we moved everything into a storage unit.

He will be living in my daughter's apartment till his is

available. I'm getting really good at moving though. LOL!

My Blue Bottle Tree

Blue bottle tree!

I have been wanting one of these for awhile.

Last summer I saw pictures of them on blogs.

This tree was made by a guy that was selling them at Quail Crest.

I have another one that I bought online earlier this spring.

It's not made as well as this one.

I'll post a picture of it later.

I bought all the bottles at thrift stores because I don't drink wine.

I requested my daughter save wine bottles for me,

she told her roommates.

They told her that their moms were making a tree also. LOL!

I took this picture of our puppy, Maddie, yesterday.

She was so little last summer.

Maddie is so good compared to last summer.

When you call her she comes and she's lovable like a Golden should be.

She does get into stuff from time to time but, doing well.

I flipped the calendar to July, love the picture.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July.

Our town has annual car show and antique show.

I did buy a hosta and a cranberry picker.

My hubby and I just watched the fireworks on the

top of one of our hay fields.

So much rain this spring, now it so dry.

Hopefully, we'll get under a rain shower.

My Lamb's ear are growing wonderfully.

I'm liking sedums and different succulents.

You don't have to worry about watering them.

I ordered a couple new rug hooking patterns,

can't wait to get back to hooking!

What's Blooming In My Garden

Beautiful blue skies.

I just love days like this.

The guys were finishing hay on our farm.

It seemed to take forever to get my flower beds

cleaned out and planted.

We had so much rain that I was a month behind.

Maddie and Gus are usually right beside me.

Butterfly weed is in full bloom.

Lots of Hollyhocks and poppies are blooming.

Last year my son fixed up this little building.

The last few weeks have been busy for me.

It seems like a blurrrr. LOL!

I am still planting flowers and vegetables.

I will be planting stuff all summer,who am I kidding.

It's an addiction, kinda like buying wool.

We've been busy with our kids.

Our middle son, Danny, just moved in a house down the road from us.

Our daughter, Lindsay, is finishing up her last class at OSU tommorrow.

She's going to take summer classes but, online.

Our oldest son,Tommy is working for USDA Wildlife Services in Columbus,Ohio.

He plans on moving into a different apartment in July.

So, I don't think things will slow down anytime soon.

It has been a really busy month for me.

I thought I was an empty nester but,

I have been busier than ever with my 3 kids.

I don't think it is going to ever stop raining here.

My husband is waiting for our fields to dry out

so he can start planting corn.

One of our friends says were due for a drought.

"March Madness!"

This month has been busy for us.

Our anniversary was March 14 and my

husband's birthday was March 22.

We've been fixing things around the house.

Spring is my favorite time of the year!!

There are so many things I want to get done.

This spring I want to get mulch.

It saves me so much time in my flower beds.

Last summer I didn't mulch and it was very hard

keepng up with the weeds.

I was adding to my blog list and

deleted the whole list.

I've got most of the back on but, as

I look at other blogs I see some I've missed.

I did get this rug finished.

It is 26" x19"

Spring Flowers

The last couple days have been beautiful.

Yesterday I was outside all day.

I sowed flowers seeds in flats, it is so nice to do outside.

We heard spring peepers last night, love the sound.

I finished this rug and listed it on Ebay today.

It is a Country Stitches design.

I just love chicks and rabbits.

Every day we have been getting more crocuses blooming.The bees are buzzing all over them.

Our dogs love to watch the chicks.

They will probably be scared of them when they get bigger.

Peeps and A Rooster Rug

After listening to the weather this morning,

I decided I better get my groceries today.

Tonight it is supposed to start snowing

and we are supposed to get 4 to 8 inches.

I finished hooking this rug this afternoon.

It is a Country Stitches pattern.

I listed it on Ebay tonight.

While I was shopping I stopped at the farm store,TSC.

I kept hearing birds and thought there must be

some birds in the store.

Looked up at the ceiling. LOL!

Then I walked to the next isle and there they were, chicks!!

I have been wanting to get some peeps.

So, called my hubby and he said to get them.

We had everything we needed except a new heat lamp.

They are so cute!

Another Sign of Spring

Last night we went Tiger Salamander hunting.

This time of year they are starting to mate.

We have a wetland area on our farm

where Tiger Salamanders lay their eggs.

This is Dillan and Riley holding a Tiger Salamander.
If you shine your flashlight you can see them in the water.

Here's a another one.

The salamanders move from other areas so,

alot of them have to cross the road.
My son, Tommy walked down the road and collected them.

He moved them to the other side of the road so they wouldn't get hit by cars.

It's been a good weekend so far, even though it has been rainy.
My husband, son and I traveled to Shelby Saturday.
They wanted to go to a "guy store", Sportsman's Den.
So, I dropped them off and I went to Ault's Rug Hooking Store.
They were having a hook in there .

I bought some wool and got to talk to

Tammy and Julie.

There were flood warnings in Shelby

so there weren't many hookers.

What a beautiful sunny day!

The flood water has went down.

My husband had a meeting in Mt. Hope, so I dropped him

off and I went to Berlin.

Bought a couple patterns at Country Craft Cupboard.

Visted a couple thrift stores and went to the grocery store.

When I got home I noticed the first crocuses in the yard blooming.

When I see these crocuses, spring is very near.

Water Water Everywhere

We woke up to lots of flooding this morning.

It stormed all night.

Our house is on a hill so we don't have flooding.

I think the whole state of Ohio
got flooding.

This is the Gristmill by Mohican State Park.

This is flooding from Plumrun Creek.

By the time I got the pictures the water had receded.

This is the Gristmill. I hope it didn't get damaged.

They have restored it.

Our fields are flooded.
It gets flooded there when we get alot of rain.

A Gardener's Prayer Rug

What a winter!

It snowed and snowed early this morning.

We ended up with about 6 to 8 inches

of heavy snow.

The storm was gone by 1:00 PM.

I'd rather have pretty white snow than mud.

Spring is going to be here before we know it.

We had about 6 in. of pretty fluffy snow last night.

I finished another crock rug today.

The last one was slightly different in color.

I thought I had plenty of wool to make another one.

Of course, I didn't.

So, today I had to dye more wool to finish the rug.

Happy Valentine's Day

This winter my husband has been

feeding the wildlife on the farm.

My son got my husband a game camera

for Christmas.

Everyday Tom takes 4 five gallon buckets of corn

out in the field.

The woods surround the field.

Tom said when he is putting out the corn he

can see the eyes in the woods.

The squirrels are so cute!

I love how the male cardinal stands out in the picture.

The past few days we have gotten pictures of the turkeys,

deer, squirrels and birds all eating together.

Looking Forward To Spring

IIIt is the time of year I'm starting to get

ready to start seeds.

The last few years I have waited too

late to start seeds.

I grow my own impatients and

they take a long time to get big enough to plant.

This year I'm going to start early.

This is flower bed in the middle of my yard.

I forget what the yellow flowers are but,

they are take over.

In the spring I thin them out,

they still go crazy.

Front of our porch.

I dug up all my hydrangeas there.

I replanted them out in another bed.

They never bloom there sohopefully

moving them will help.

This window box is outside my kitchen window.

Every year it if fun to plan what

color scheme and plants to plant in there.

I I plant alot of wave petunias.

I hope to get back to hooking a rug.

I have 4 rugs started.LOL!

All day Friday I dyed wool,

I'm excited to hook the new colors.

Right now it is raining hard and the thermometer says 24!!

That is so weird!

There is about 1/4" of ice outside.

I just hope we don't lose our electric.

We have the generator ready though, just in case.

I'm glad it's Feb..

Feb. always flies by and that's ok with me.

I have drawn up a few patterns on linen.

Need to get busy.

My BIG Puppy

This is Madeline~ Maddie.

She won't be 1 year old until April 6.

Golden Retrievers are about full grown by 6 months old.

Maddie has really come a long way.

She FINALLY comes when she is called.

Now she can go outside in the yard without being on a leash.

Sits and if you say shake she puts her paw in my hand.

Maddie speaks but, she thinks if she sits and barks she will get food.

I have been doing laundry , cleaning and hope to get hooking.

I got a new pattern from Mad Hen Primitives.

Love her patterns!

Finished Rugs

I finally finished the crock rug. I had to dye most of the wool because

I wasn't happy with the wool I had.

It's a fun rug to hook though.

It has warmed up in Ohio,it was 36.

The weather here in Ohio today was NASTY.

I know it is everywhere, just had to complain about it.

I did get alot done today, including dyeing wool.

Winterfest

This past weekend we had our annual Winterfest.

You never know what the weather is going to be.

Some years it's been above freezing and the ice sculptures

melted fast.

This year the wind was blowing and I froze.

I think it was successful this year.

This is one of the sculptors.

All the stores and businesses have an ice sculpture in
front of the business.

Eiffel Tower

A very cute fish!!

This is a concrete fountain in the back of the pineapple.
The town had the fountain restored and they cover it in the winter.
It looks like a space ship has landed.
I think it looks awful but, I guess it will protect it.
Although it has been there for years and years.

I got out today and got a few groceries.
Tomorrow the weather people say it is going to get nasty
here. I am going to stay inside and hook.

This Week Is Flying By!!!

This week is flying by, can't believe it's Wednesday.

Today I dyed wool most of the day.

I am hooking a crock rug and I wanted the wool colors to match old crock colors.

The colors turned out great.

I took some pictures of some Christmas gifts I received.

This is one of the gifts from my father inlaw.

He said he saw this and had to get it for me.

I love it!

Monday Night Hooking

It is snowing in Ohio

I think it has let up a little but,

we are supposed to get more. It is January and I'd rather have snow than

rain and mud. The date today is pretty cool, 1-11-11!

I have been hooking and this is one of the rugs I finished.

I did list it on ebay tonight.

Last night I went to Katie's for Monday night hooking.

I can't believe Christmas is 11 days away!

My shopping is close to being done,

I need to buy stocking stuffers.

Last night we had our annual garden club

Christmas Party.

We had it at the Russell Cooper House in Mt. Vernon Ohio.

It is a beautiful Victorian bed and breakfast.

14 of us were there, it was frigid out.

This is library where we had our gift exchange.

They have all the original gas lights that are converted

to electric.

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Our family went to my mom and dad's house, my sister

and her family were there. Also, my mom's neighbor.

We were just getting ready to eat and my dad

got a nose bleed.

It was so bad he had to go to the Emergency Room.

They couldn't get it to stop.

Lindsay, my daughter, drove them.

They were back in couple hours.

Poor dad had all this stuff shoved up his nose.

He has never gotten a nose bleed like that!

He's fine now.

The weekend flew by, 2 of my kids were home for the weekend.

Taking Time Off

I can't believe it's November and Thanksgiving is

right around the corner.

Here is a picture of Maddie on the left and Gus on the right.

Not very good pictures, took them with my Blackberry.

Maddie got weighed at the Vet's office and weighs 68 pounds.

She's already 7 months old.

she acts like a puppy but, she doesn't look like one.

Gus is getting used to Maddie, he liked being an only child. LOL!

Tom finished combining his late planted soybeans.

It has been beautiful here in Ohio.

I have taken off a week from hooking.

Been outside cleaning up my flower beds and raking leaves.

A year ago from today we were on a cruise in the Caribbean.

So I didn't get my flower beds cleaned up too well last year.

There were so many Canada Geese on the water, had to take a picture.

The black dots are geese, not a very good picture.

Hopefully, I can start hooking again.

I just bought some new hooking patterns,

can't wait to hook them.

Leaves,Rugs and a Blimp Flying Over

It has been beautiful here. My husband, Tom, has been combining soybeans, the weather has been perfect for that.

It seems like all the leaves fell in one day. We haven't gotten a killing frost yet. We have gotten spotty frosts. Have alot of raking to do.
This is the maple tree in our front yard.

I hooked another turkey rug and I will list it on Ebay tonight. I had lots of the same color wool left from the last rug. I love this design, it is fun to hook.

The other day we noticed a blimp flying over. They fly over our farm alot, it is

flying back to Akron, Ohio.

I finished this snowman rug yesterday. I got the pattern last year from Lori Brechlin but, never made it. I love the blue background. I dyed the wool this week and really like the color. I will list this rug on ebay tonight also.
I have a busy week, I'd rather be super busy than bored LOL!!

Friday Hawk Release and Rounding up Heifers

I've never saw a Red-tailed hawk this close. They are pretty.
Tommy let him go and I barely got him in the photo.

It's been an exciting few days here on the farm.

Maybe more like a heart attack moment! LOL!

We were getting ready to go to bed last night when we got a phone call from one of our friends.

They were driving past the heifer barn and saw eyes and thought there were deer.

Looked again and there were heifers out.

Our barn is on a major highway with lots of traffic.

We got our spotlights a went over.

I had taken my contacts out so I couldn't see didn't have time to put them back in.

Also, had fliplfops on.

So I go around the barn falling in holes with cold water and walking through itch weed.

We got them in, thank goodness our friend stopped and helped us.

My son comes home from Columbus,Ohio on Fridays.

Every Friday he has been catching Red-tail hawks and bring them here to release them.

This one is from last Friday.

Tommy banded him.

I've seen him around this week swooping down getting a mouse.

He works for the USDA Wildlife Services at the Ohio State University Airport.

One of his jobs is to keep the wildlife off the runways so the airplanes don't hit them.

Who could forget Sully in NYC.

2 Days in a ROW!!

Wow! I feel pretty good I've posted 2 days in a row here.

I really haven't had much time to do that.

I've been riding along in the truck with my husband.

We have been delivering silage/feed to a dairy farmer.

Seems like little things always go wrong.

Like yesterday it was raining and the windshield wipers stopped.

That's nerve racking!! So it's always an exciting ride. LOL!

Hopefully tommorrow the sun will shine here.

Anyone that knows me knows I hate dreary days.

I think I have that disorder and need a bright light shining on me! LOL!

Finally Finished A Rug

Today I finished a rug!!

It is a Anne Nichols design out of the Need'l Love Falloween book.

I hooked one for myself and keep it out all year round.

It is one of my favorite designs.

I have been fall cleaning.

I am decluttering and getting rid of ALOT of stuff.

It feels so good to get all this stuff out of here.

It's hard for me to part with things but, I haven't used it so it's gone.

It has been raining the last few days here and it's so dreary.

Reminding me of winter.

I'm not ready winter!!

Sandhill Cranes On The Farm

We have had Sandhill Cranes on our farm for the 5th year.

They arrive in early spring and they will be leaving soon

for their winter home.

Sandhill Cranes are really interesting to watch, they look and sound prehistoric.

Our school brings classes out to our farm

to observe them.

The pictures aren't the greatest,it was gloomy day when we took the pictures.

I have been really busy and haven't had time to blog.
We moved Lindsay back to her apartment in Columbus, OSU started last week.
I have been trying to get painting done outside before winter comes.
Hopefully things will slow down and I can get back to hooking.

UGH!! No Electric

It seems things can change fast here on Butler Farms.

Last night at 5:30 PM we lost power.

We had strong winds and heavy rain but, it didn't seem bad.

Well, a few miles away in Wooster, Ohio there was a tornado that touched down.

There was lots of damage in other towns near by also.

It hit OARDC a branch of OSU.

There was lots of other damage to homes also.

Millions of dolors in research was ruined. It seems no one was hurt.

Amazing!!

I am so thankful we have a generator.

I used the beading technique around the border.

It is fun to do the beading technique and I love the look.

Folk Art Rug and Farm Photos

The weather has cooled off here, I'm so used to the hot weather it seems cold. I'm really enjoying it!! I finished this rug today. It is a Country Stitches-Brenda Gervais pattern. I made a mistake by saying it was a different designer.
Today I took a few pictures of our farm. My husband just got 50 heifers so I helped him with the last few that he was vaccinating. Aren't they cute?? They are dairy cows so, they will be getting milked.
This is our barn that we keep heifers in.

Lunch time.

I have been wanting to take some pictures of my hubby's soybeans. It looks like a sea of green. That is the heifer barn in the distance.

Usually we just plant corn, but our heifer numbers are down so we have enough feed for them. Tom planted soybeans instead, I think the fields are beautiful.

I love the Tumbling Pumpkins! Rhonda bought this pattern also. Can't wait to see how she hooks this one. Ali from Kindred Spirits was selling alot of Maria's patterns. All the rugs are really nice.

Thsi rug was designed and hooked by Nola Heidbreder. My friend Rhonda bought the pattern from Nola. I can't wait to see how Rhonda hooks it. Nola said it took her 40 hours to hook the rug, it is just beautiful!

This is a Halloween rug that really caught my eye. I love it!

Sauder Village and A Jack Rug

It is hard to believe another week has gone by. Last week I went to Sauder Village it took 3 hours to get there. We got back home faster, didn't listen to the GPS. LOL! I went with 3 other girls and had a really great time. Bought some wool and a pattern from Wendy Miller. The vendors were great and I got to see the person I'm always talking to on the phone to order wool, that would be Rebecca Erb. I ran into Bobbie-Evening Stitcher, I love talking to Bobbie she is the sweetest!!
The rugs were so pretty and lots of them!! I took lots of pictures to share.
I just finished this rug today. I bought this pattern fron Wendy Miller. I love the way it turned out and it was fun to hook. It helps when I had all the right colors of wool in my stash.

A Trip To the Veterinary Clinic

Today my daughter and I took Maddie to the vet for an exam and shots. She already weighs 48 LBS.. The reason why I haven't posted pictures of her on my blog is she doesn't sit still long enough. I think the hardest job would to be a professional photographer for animals. Maddie LOVES to be outside and always wants out. We are working with her because when she's outside she won't listen. So, we've had to put her on a lease. She's doing well though.

The weather finally broke here in Ohio. The heat and humidity are gone for a few days. We turned off the air, how refreshing. Now I have to get caught up on mowing and weeding. Have a great week!

☆ I Love Flags & Geraniums ☆

It is supposed to be hot and humid in Ohio this week. I'm not going to complain about it because before we know it summer will be over. This morning I went outside and took a few pictures of my favorite things.
This picture was taken walking out my front door. The geraniums are blooming, they didn't have any flowers on them a couple weeks ago.

This spring I started Lobelia from seed. The blue is so crisp, I just love them. The starts were so delicate but, they took off. I will definitely start them from seed again next year. The begonias that I planted with them are Vodka, they are a very nice bright red.

This picture is looking out my kitchen window. I have a window box outside our kitchen window. I really miss the flowers in the winter. I do put pines in the boxes in the winter but, it's not as good as flowers.

All my flowers are in full bloom. The blue ageratums in this picture I started from seed. They are just getting going. This is the side of my house.

I had a old wood feed trough full of flowers. Last week the bottom fell out and all the flowers were on the ground. So I found this box and filled it with dirt and saved all the flowers. I also planted some of them right in the ground and they are doing good.

Every year I grow dahlias and dig them back up in the fall. I ended up with alot of white dahlias. They would be great for a wedding.

The hibiscus are really pretty this year. We've gotten alot of rain which has really helped. We usually are lacking rain this time of year.
The humidity is supposed to be out of here tommorrow. I'm really looking forward to that. This weekend it is supposed to be beautiful, can't wait.

Dog Daze Of Summer

Another hot, humid day in Ohio. I've been watching the weather channel and I don't think we have it as bad as Missouri, Kansas and some other states. Hopefully, everyone is staying cool. I have went outside MANY times today to walk our Golden Retriever puppy, Maddie. We are trying to get her house trained. It's going good, thank goodness I don't have carpet! LOL! She's getting big, I weighed her and she weighs 35 LBS.. Maddie is the most energetic puppy we've ever had. Maybe we haven't had a puppy for such a long time I don't remember. Anyways, she is doing well and is being a typical puppy.
I finished this rug today, I just LOVE it. I think the pattern is so cute. It is a pattern from Buttermilk Basin and measures 17.5" x 16.5". I used all the wool that I dyed in the last post. Dyeing Wool

Yesterday I dyed wool all day. It wasn't planned, I drew a pattern on linen. Looked through my wool and I was missing alot of colors I wanted to hook in the rug. It seems like the days I dye wool I'm doing many other things too. Last night my son had a party here so in between dyeing wool I was helping him. We have a pond on our farm so the party wasn't here at our house. So in between baking cheesey potatoes(no dyes got into the food LOL!) I was dyeing primitive orange, mustard and red wool. Tommorrow I might dye greens and would like to try black for backgrounds.

This is the way I keep records of dyeing wool. It is no frills and very simple way to keep track. As soon as the wool is dyed, I cut off little pieces. I even cut it when it is wet and staple the swatch to an index card. Write down the recipe right away. I have done it several hours after I dye the wool and sometimes haven't been able to remember. Usually when I'm dyeing I will dye wool all day and use LOTS of different recipes. I use several different books and if I don't have a particular color I use the Cushings color wheel. Choose a color close to the one I need. So that can be confusing also. I keep a pen and index card to write down notes too.

I bought this index card box at an auction. It had unused index cards, it was prefect for keeping swatches of dyed wool. I don't keep the swatches in any certain order.

What a hot humid summer! Thank goodness we have AC or I would be one cranky gal. LOL! I have been busy weeding my flower beds since I never spread mulch this spring. I will be getting mulch next spring for sure. It just saves so much time.I still want to plant a tree but, went to the greenhouse and had to leave because it was so hot. I love picking out things to plant but, not fun in the heat.

A Boo Cat Pumpkin Rug

I just finished this rug this afternoon and listed it on Ebay. It is a Country Stitches by Brenda Gervais Design. It was a challenge to hook all those letters!! I like hooking lots of details though. I need to get another rug going tonight, I'm in the mood to hook.
I've stayed inside since it is hot and humid outside. In the mornings I go outside and get everything done when it is cooler. Have a great evening!

Gardening Pictures

It is summertime in Ohio!! It's HOT! I've been wanting to post pictures of my flowers so here they are. The summer is flying by!! I am still planting and will be till fall. I'm always moving flowers and I'm really looking forward to making some hypertufia troughs. Also, got the stuff to make concrete bee skeps. They are expensive to buy them already made. This is the first pumpkin rug I've hooked this year. It seems a little early but, I've been wanting to hook this pattern for awhile. I bought the orange striped reversible wool at the hookin at Kingwood from the Aults. I LOVE it! I found out that is very hard to get, sure wish I had more of it. This is a Maggie Bonanomi Need'l Love Book Haunted Threads pattern. I really like the way it turned out. Have a great evening!!

Happy 4th of July!! Our fireworks were last night, they were really nice. We went on top of a hill on our farm and could see them perfectly.
I planted this fairy garden yesterday. I went to Berlin to a store, Country Gatherings, where they sell plants and accessories for fairy gardens. All of their ideas are inspiring but, expensive LOL!! My flowers are doing good, I hope to post some pictures this week.

I finished this rug today and listed it on Ebay. It is a Kindred Spirits design. I have hooked this rug before but, I did the background in a light background. I like the dark background better. Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend!!
